As a result of their renewed interest in the European market, Simplex-Turbulo has gone into partnership with Sri-Lanka based Colombo Dockyard PLC as their new UK agent. On March 19th 2015, Simplex signed the agency agreement with Managing Director Peter Stevenson and senior officials of Colombo Dockyard present at the event.

Simplex is proud to come into partnership with Colombo Dockyard PLC as their UK agents as they continue to promote their ship repair, ship building and engineering services across Europe, as well as the Far East and the Indian Subcontinent. Established in 1974 and with a rich history, the company has operated in joint collaboration with Onomichi Dockyard Co Ltd Japan since 1993.

Throughout the 1980s and 90s, UK ship owners and managers used the facilities at the Colombo Dockyard quite extensively, but following the development of Singapore and Hong Kong as ship management hubs this usage has dropped off. Various factors are now combining, however, to make Colombo Dockyard a very attractive option for UK ship managers and owners.  For vessels trading in Indian sub-continent and south-east Asian waters the repair facilities at this yard are of a high quality and conveniently accessible.

On the shipbuilding front Colombo Dockyard is able to construct specialist offshore support vessels, globally proven in the offshore operating field.  During his visit, Peter Stevenson was able to see first hand the excellent logistic support available in Sri Lanka for routine repairs as well as for carrying out offshore-related projects.

Colombo Dockyard deals with approximately 200 vessels per year, with approximately half of this number dry docked, the other half serviced alongside repair birth. All routine damage repairs and retrofit installations can be accommodated at Colombo, with four dry docks ranging from 9000 to 125,000 DWT. The largest of these can cater to tankers, bulk carriers and off shore drill rigs. A 30,000 DWT dock accommodates feeders and trampers plying regional waters, and two 9000 DWT docks are ideal facilities for offshore support vessels, naval vessels, trawlers and work boats.
