Condition monitoring across seven parameters in lube oil
Parker Kittiwake have all bases covered with the recent launch of their Attenuated Total Reflectance (ATR) Analyser. Seven parameters of lube oil on board a vessel can now be measured with a single testing kit, presenting something of a revolution for the condition monitoring industry. The ATR Analyser can simultaneously test for base number (BN), total acid number (TAN), insolubles, soot loading, viscosity, FAME (fatty acid methyl ester) and water content.
Preventing unnecessary damage, saving time and money
In preventing unnecessary damage, engineers have always benefited from the frequent testing of operating systems. These processes have been expensive and time-consuming to date. In an industry first, the ATR Analyser avoids the need for a suite of condition monitoring equipment and the transport of consumable items, particularly difficult for some hazardous chemicals.
The ATR Analyser uses mid-infrared spectroscopy technology in identifying harmful elements such as solid particles or water. The system bypasses any wet chemistry and the sample preparation is simple. Infrared spectroscopy is well proven by laboratories in this sector. The ATR Analyser takes the lab to the field and presents real time data to operators on board vessels, thus preventing damage and unplanned downtime.
Friendly and robust technology for ease of use
Raw data gathered from oil samples (across seven parameters) is captured and processed by the ATR Analyser. An easy-to-understand reading is then displayed to the engineer with almost no training requirement. The kit also takes into account the less than ideal testing conditions of many on board environments, with a single test procedure that avoids peripheral testing equipment.
The Attenuated Total Reflectance Analyser is a key addition to Parker Kittiwake’s comprehensive range of condition monitoring products. Simplex-Turbulo Company Ltd, the UK, Ireland and Singapore Master Marine Distributor is pleased to bring this product to market.
