Today the warehouse staff at Wherwell took delivery of three brand new cylinder liners. With the two Bergen BR/V liners and the Wärtsilä W34 liner weighing approximately 270kg a piece, they were no mean feat to unload. However, the staff worked quickly to manoeuvre the cylinder liners into position in the warehouse.
These cylinder liners have been produced to Lloyd’s certification standard by Harzer Werke GmbH, who have over a decade of experience producing liners of this quality using their centrifugal casting method.
By using centrifugal casting to create a homogenous blank of the required iron alloy Harzer Werke can achieve a much denser and stronger liner.
This process means that any inclusions or gas bubbles are removed from the blank. Because of this, the liners are able to perform to a greater standard under higher pressures, in comparison to liners which are produced by other means. The blanks are then accurately machined using CNC lathes and drills to achieve the exacting standards that are required for these parts.
However, two of the cylinder liners were required almost immediately by a customer and they are once again on the move. Of the three delivered, only the Bergen 320mm bore cylinder liner remains as part of the total stock of 80 cylinder liners here at Simplex-Turbulo.
